Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
